Red Robin recently unveiled a new menu item – the Wedgie Burger
! It sounded interesting so I had to try it. My husband, a burger enthusiast, came with me.
Here’s the deal: the Wedgie Burger doesn’t have a traditional bun. Instead it has a lettuce wedge bun.
The burger is amazing! Think a six-ounce beef patty with bacon, guacamole, tomato and red onions stuffed inside a lettuce wedge. It’s served with a side salad, but I got pretty full just eating the burger. I could have swapped out the salad for another healthy side, like the freckled fruit salad, which has just 110 calories. (When eating healthy, always forget the fries!)
My husband ate the burger and was surprised how much he didn’t miss the traditional bun. By eliminating the bread bun, you’re avoiding significant carbs and calories. Red Robin estimates
you’ll save between 200 to 400 calories by ordering your burger “naked.”
Plus the lettuce wedge added a nice crunch and was a refreshing, cool complement to the hot burger and bacon. When lunch was finished, we felt satisfied but not at all bloated or guilty. That’s because we didn’t overdo anything!
The Wedgie Burger proves you can have a delicious burger that’s nutritious, too.
