The Panda journey began with the enthusiasm and persistence of our founder, Andrew Cherng, who came to America from the rich, culinary Yangzhou region of China. His father, master chef Ming Tsai, had the unique gift of creating irresistible tastes and flavors in a sizzling wok using only the finest ingredients. These culinary masterpieces became, and continue to be, the cornerstone of the first Panda Inn restaurant that opened in 1973. Later, at the urging of many loyal guests, Andrew expanded the availability of these popular dishes with the creation of Panda Express in 1983. Panda's team of talented chefs continue to ensure that every menu entrée is made to the highest standards, and that is why Panda Express is the largest and fastest growing Chinese restaurant concept in America.
